What is the difference between a smartwatch and an Apple Watch?
A smartwatch is a device that generally has many of the same features as a smartphone, but with smaller screen size. An Apple Watch is a type of smartwatch that specifically uses the iOS operating system and integrates heavily with other Apple products and services.
What can you do on an Apple Watch?
The Apple Watch can be used for a variety of tasks, such as tracking fitness activity, checking the weather, sending messages, and making phone calls.
Is there a monthly fee for Apple Watch?
No, there is no monthly fee for using an Apple Watch. However, some features, such as using cellular data or streaming music, may require a paid subscription.
Can you use Apple Watch without iPhone?
No, the Apple Watch cannot be used without an iPhone. The watch requires a connection to an iPhone in order to perform many of its functions.
Why should I not buy an Apple Watch?
There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, as the decision of whether or not to purchase an Apple Watch depends on each individual’s needs and preferences. However, some reasons why someone might not want to buy an Apple Watch include the high price tag, limited functionality without an iPhone, and the need to charge it regularly.
Should I wear my Apple Watch to bed?
There is no definitive answer to this question, as people have different opinions on whether or not it is comfortable or convenient to wear a watch to bed. Ultimately, it is up to the individual to decide whether or not they want to wear their Apple Watch to bed.
Watch – Apple
Because it is worn on your wrist, the Apple Watch can do functions that other gadgets cannot. When you wear it, you get a fitness partner who tracks all of your movements, meaningful health insights, and a connection to the people and things that are important to you. And it’s never more than a glance away.
Which Apple Watch is right for you?
The Apple Watch Series 7 is the most recent model, with redesigned aesthetics and a slightly bigger screen than the now-discontinued Series 6. However, the tried-and-true Series 3, which is half the price of the Series 7, remains in the roster.
There’s also the very affordable Apple Watch SE, which contains the majority of the Series 7’s key features and performs admirably in our tests. As a result, it provides a strong middle ground for customers.
The Apple Watch Series 3, released in 2017, is the most affordable choice, with a starting price of $200. However, it is not as quick as recent ones. The Apple Watch SE boasts a faster CPU and comparable appearance to the Series 7, which starts at $400 and is equipped with Apple’s newest capabilities.
With so many possibilities, it might be difficult to select the finest Apple Watch for yourself or a loved one. Before you decide, keep in mind that an Apple wrist watch works best with an iPhone. If the person you’re buying for has an Android smartphone, you should get an Android-friendly wristwatch.
Remember that the pricing shown above is for GPS-only devices. Adding a cellular connection will cost you an additional $100, plus a monthly subscription fee. So, before you spend out the extra money, consider if you actually need it.
Here’s a deeper look at the features of each Apple Watch model.
Apple Watch Series 7
The most recent Apple Watch sports a little bigger screen and a slimmer bezel (the black border around the display) than the Series 6. With it comes the promise of improved impact resistance and dustproofness. The older Series 6 is merely resistant to water. The Series 7’s screen is also touted to be brighter than its predecessor’s.
The Apple Watch Series 7 casing is available in five different colors: green, blue, red, black, and white. Despite the modest increase in screen and case size, you may still use a Series 6 watch band on the new model.
The Series 7 has a blood oxygen sensor as well as an EKG function to identify abnormal cardiac rhythms. The model comes with a redesigned charging cable that enables for speedier charging, which is handy when utilizing the Watch’s sleep-tracking feature. The overall battery life remains unchanged.
In our testing, the Series 7 fell just a bit short of the SE in ease of interaction—the time it takes a smartwatch to respond to user inputs—as well as heart-rate and step-count accuracy, but it still ranks toward the top of our smartwatch ratings.

Sensors
Apple Watch Series 7 has the same sensors as Apple Watch Series 6, which means it has a third-generation optical heart sensor, Digital Crown with haptic feedback, a built-in compass, an always-on altimeter, and a second-generation speaker and mic. You can quickly call for assistance and notify your emergency contacts using Emergency SOS and International emergency calling.
If your Apple Watch Series 7 detects a hard fall, it will automatically contact emergency services on your behalf. The Noise app notifies you when decibel levels approach dangerous levels.
Performance
The Apple Watch Series 7 has the same CPU as the Apple Watch Series 6 from last year. Despite having a new moniker, the S7, it has the same CPU power. This isn’t the first time Apple has done something like this. The S5 chip in the Apple Watch Series 5 had the same performance as the S4 SoC but also included a Compass feature.
The S7 SiP boasts a 64-bit dual-core CPU and 32GB of storage. It is 20% quicker than the processor found within the Apple Watch SE as the S6 chip.
Compass
The Series 7 comes with a compass.
On your Apple Watch, launch the Compass app. The app displays the direction that the top of your watch is pointing, as well as your bearing in the top-left corner.
By default, the compass utilizes magnetic north. Open the Settings app on your Apple Watch, tap Compass, and then toggle Use True North on.
The compass operates in many locations. Hold your watch flat to align the crosshairs at the center of the compass for the most accurate reading. The red cone that surrounds the compass needle reveals the precision of the heading as you move. A narrower cone signifies greater precision than a larger cone.
To display your elevation, inclination, and coordinates, rotate the Digital Crown up.
Scroll down and press Add Bearing to specify your bearing. Then, using the Digital Crown, make any necessary modifications.
Give Compass permission to access your location.
When you initially launch Compass, it asks for permission to access your location. To give permission, tap While Using the App.
If Compass does not detect your position, check the following settings:
Open the Apple Watch Settings app.
Compass > Privacy > Location Services
While Using the App, tap.
Storage Space
The Apple Watch Series 7 has 32GB of internal storage, the same as the Series 6 and SE models.
Available Wrist Bands
Apple Watch Series 3
The Series 3 is Apple’s cheapest model.; though it will be slower than a top of the line model, it is still perfectly functional; and while it lacks the latest bells and whistles, it probably offers all the features you’re looking for. However, it has a basic shortcoming in one area: storage space.
The Series 3 comes with only 8GB of internal storage, which is roughly what you’d expect from a mid-2000s iPod. That may not seem like a big concern if you’re not planning on downloading a lot of tunes, podcasts, or images to your watch. However, when it comes time to upgrade your smartphone, that 8GB of storage will still be a pain in the a$$.
Don’t get me wrong: it’s fantastic that Apple still supports a 2017 watch. I’m all about long-lasting products. I believe you can extend the life of an old Apple Watch by just changing the battery. However, watchOS upgrades will be too large for the 8GB Series 3 to manage in 2022. To upgrade, Apple requires you to disconnect your watch from your iPhone, delete the contents of your watch, and then install the update.
And, because the Series 3 is so old, these upgrades take an eternity. My fiancée recently upgraded hers, and after going through the unpairing process, the update took around two hours to download to the watch. I even tried turning off Bluetooth on her iPhone, which can shorten the time it takes to download the update, but it had no effect. She had to restore from her previous backup after waiting even longer for the update to finally install in order to use her watch as it was before installing the update.
It’s arguably the worst process I’ve ever seen for upgrading a smartphone—certainly an Apple device. That doesn’t mean she’ll abandon it—the Series 3 still tracks workouts, accepts messages and notifications, and sets alarms, among other functions you’d expect from a smartwatch. The irritating updates are something she will have to cope with on occasion.
Features of the Apple Watch Series 3
Design on the outside
From the outside, this Apple Watch has the same recognizable design as the Apple Watch Series 2, with a square OLED Retina display protected by sapphire crystal in stainless steel and ceramic models and Ion-X glass in aluminum models. The 38-millimeter model has a resolution of 272 x 340 pixels, while the 42-millimeter model has a resolution of 312 x 390-pixels. Both have a brightness of 1,000 nits.
The Side button and Digital Crown are located on the device’s right and are used to navigate watchOS menus with display touches, swipes, and gestures. The Digital Crown was one of the few elements to receive a visual update in this generation, with now-obsolete cellular models sporting a red dot to indicate their additional connectivity option.
The heart rate sensor, a cluster of LEDs and sensors that can monitor blood flow in the user’s wrist, is located in the back. This is accomplished through the use of a method known as photoplethysmography. Apple raised the size of the back crystal by 0.25 millimeters, which will be scarcely apparent to the vast majority of customers.
The Apple Watch’s rear case was also available in two different materials, depending on the model. The baseline model lacks cellular connectivity and has a “composite back,” but LTE-equipped variants have a ceramic back cover.
General requirements
Apple made improvements to the internals of the Apple Watch, as is common, enhancing both performance and functionality over prior generations.
Apple created the S3 processor for the third-generation smartwatch, a dual-core CPU with a 70% performance boost over the S2. This update not only provided faster app launch times and smoother graphics than its predecessor, but it also enabled Siri to speak back to the user via the Apple Watch’s built-in speaker.
The S3 is accompanied by the Apple-designed W2 wireless chip, which makes Wi-Fi connections 85 percent faster while also making Bluetooth and Wi-Fi 50 percent more power-efficient.
Storage capacity was increased in some versions. The base model comes with 8 gigabytes of storage, while the cellular model offers 16 gigabytes. Apple now only sells the 8GB GPS version.
The barometric altimeter was introduced in the 2017 release and is used to determine how far the Apple Watch is from sea level. The sensor is utilized for a variety of activities, including elevation gain and calculating the number of flights of steps ascended.
Along with the back heart rate sensor, the Apple Watch has a gyroscope, accelerometer, and ambient light sensor. All versions come with 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2 connectivity.
The gadget is also waterproof to a depth of 50 meters.
Cellular Connectivity
In this 2017 model, Apple provided two versions of Apple Watch. The conventional model was labeled “GPS,” while the cellular model was labeled “GPS + Cellular.” This second model contains cellular radios and can connect to a mobile network on its own. This enabled it to function without being attached to an iPhone nearby.
It has cellular capability shown by a red dot on its Digital Crown.
Apple eventually discontinued the cellular version of the Apple Watch Series 3, while cellular variations are available on the Apple Watch Series 6 and beyond.
The Apple Watch can communicate with various online services by using a full LTE and UMTS cellular radio, which it seamlessly switches to if an iPhone is out of range. These can include accessing audio streaming services like Apple Music, Messages, and third-party applications like WeChat.
Apple Music streaming via the Apple Watch was not accessible right away. In October 2017, Apple released it as part of a watchOS 4.1 upgrade. Streaming over an LTE connection reduces battery life, just as streaming while using the built-in GPS functionality reduces usage time to three hours.
You may use the same phone number and account to link the watch with your iPhone. This allows text messages and phone calls to be sent to the Apple Watch even when you are not near your iPhone. You may also use the Apple Watch’s built-in speaker and microphone to receive and make calls. It will, however, link with AirPods for a more private discussion.
Apple employed a built-in eSIM to offer LTE connection without affecting the design or size. This design choice takes up one-hundredth the area of a typical SIM card, removing the need for an additional SIM slot. Instead of a separate aerial component, the display also serves as the antenna for the Apple Watch’s cellular connections.
Because of the nature of how the Apple Watch Series 3 connects to the phone network, it will only work with a select few carriers, which Apple has published on its website. In the United States, AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon are among the carriers that will support the device, with customers expected to pay $10 per month to add the device to their service plan.
Apple Watch Series 8 (Expected this year 2022) – what we know so far
We’re still a few months away from the Apple Watch Series 8’s release, but we’re already hearing a lot about Apple’s next-generation wrist-worn device.
This article compiles what we know so far regarding the Apple Watch Series 8 based on rumors. Because it is very early in the product cycle, these features have yet to be verified, and Apple’s intentions are subject to change.
Design
Multiple rumors suggested that Apple was working on a refreshed design with flat edges similar to the flat edges of the iPhone 13 and iPad Pro prior to the release of the Apple Watch Series 7, but that didn’t happen.
According to rumors, the Apple Watch Series 8 will have a similar design with a flat display. According to ShrimpApplePro, “there is a flat front glass display” being developed for the Apple Watch, with a “high chance” that it will be used in the Apple Watch Series 8.
If this occurs, we may see an Apple Watch Series 8 with the flat-edged design that was first speculated for the Apple Watch Series 7.
Size Alternatives
According to display analyst Ross Young, the Apple Watch Series 8 could come in three sizes instead of two, with Apple adding an even larger size to join the 41 and 45mm size options.
Apple Watch is tough.
According to Bloomberg, Apple is developing an Apple Watch “with a rugged casing” for athletes, hikers, and others who use the watch in more extreme conditions than everyday wear. It will have the same functionality as a conventional Apple Watch, but will be more impact resistant and protected. The tough Apple Watch is likely to be released in 2022 by Apple.
Potential Health Benefits=
Apple is working on many additional health features for future Apple Watch models, according to The Wall Street Journal and other sources. Blood pressure monitoring, a thermometer for fertility and sleep tracking, sleep apnea diagnosis, and diabetes detection are among them.
Some of these features may be included in the Apple Watch Series 8, but it is unclear whether all of these sensors are ready, so Apple may defer the functionality until later.
Women’s health features, sleep updates, new fitness options, and medication management are all scheduled to launch before blood pressure and glucose monitoring, which are not expected to be available until 2025 or later.
Sensor of Temperature
The Apple Watch could include a body temperature sensor as early as 2022; the temperature sensor would initially be used for fertility planning. It could be used in future versions of the Apple Watch to determine if a user has a higher than normal body temperature, but it is unlikely to show an actual measurement.
Apple attempted to include temperature tracking in the Series 7, but it was unable to do it accurately enough. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, if Apple has refined its algorithm sufficiently, the series 8 might contain the body temperature tracking capability.
Skin temperature can vary depending on the environment, and because a smart watch cannot monitor core body temperature, getting an accurate reading without the proper algorithm is difficult.
Detection of Sleep Apnea
Apple intends to use the existing blood oxygen sensor to detect sleep apnea, but there are issues with taking frequent readings without significantly reducing battery life, so it’s unclear whether this feature will be released.
Crash Detection in Automobiles
Apple is working on a crash detection function for the iPhone and Apple Watch, which might be released in 2022. It will detect automobile accidents by monitoring a surge in gravitational force using sensors such as the accelerometer.
When an automobile accident is detected, the iPhone or Apple Watch will instantly phone 911 for assistance. Because it is scheduled for 2022, this could be a feature designed for iPhone 14 models and the Apple Watch Series 8, though it is unlikely to be limited to those devices. It will be an extension of the current Apple Watch and iPhone models’ Fall Detection capability.
Improvements in Atrial Fibrillation
Apple is expanding atrial fibrillation detection in watchOS 9 to calculate “burden,” or how frequently a person is in an atrial fibrillation state over a given time period.
Update on Activity Tracking
The Apple Watch Series 8 will have “significant changes” to activity monitoring, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. There has been no hint on what could change.
Chips that are faster
The Apple Watch Series 8 is likely to have a faster system-on-a-chip, which will increase performance. Apple did not make any adjustments to the S7 chip, but the S8 chip is likely to improve in terms of speed and economy.
